Results of the 2009 Belgium F1 Grand Prix.

Although Kimi Raikkonen took the chequered flag at Spa, the biggest celebration of the day was from the Force India Team who scored not only their first F1 points, but first podium. Giancarlo Fisichella finished second, a second behind the Finn, having started on pole.

Sebastian Vettel finished third, keeping his title chasing hopes alive, and the BMWs finally had a good race, with Robert Kubica in fourth and Nick Heidfeld in fifth. McLaren's only finish was from Heikki Kovalainen in sixth, followed by Ruben's Barrichello, while Nico Rosberg picked up the final points.

It was a less satisfactory race for two other contenders for the 2009 title, as Mark Webber managed only ninth and Jenson Button retired on the first lap along with Lewis Hamilton after the two were involved in a first corner fracas.

Raikkonen snatched the lead on the first lap using the advantage of his kers system but was under pressure for the whole race from the impressively improved Force India. Vettel benefited from a late second pit stop that leapfrogged him into third. The points also helped him overhaul his team for third in the drivers standings.

In a race that saw six retirements, including Fernando Alonso, the real racing was in the middle order as places were exchanged for sixth, seventh and eighth, in an otherwise incident free race.

For title leader Button it was another disappointment, his fifth race without a podium finish, but he remains 17 points clear of his team mate, with no consistent chaser emerging as five races remain. The form cars now include Ferrari, McLaren and the previously unrated Force India all complicating the chase and getting in the way of the two Red Bulls who are third and fourth, 19 and 20.5 points adrift.

The Brawn team hold on to a 24 point lead, despite going flat in the second half of the season but continue to pick up points as Red Bull stumble too. Ferrari are a distant third.
