Results of the 2009 Brazilian F1 Grand Prix.

The 2009 Champions were once again decided at Interlagos for the fifth season running as Jenson Button and his Brawn team clinched both trophies in an extraordinary race that overshadowed Mark Webber's second career victory.

Robert Kubica finished second, but the following three finishers - Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button all started among the last six! Kimi Raikkonen eventually salvaged sixth, Sebastien Buemi got his first two career points and poor old homeboy Rubens Barrichello saw his pole start end up as an eight place following a late puncture.

The Brazilian - in with a chance to come within six points of the championship title - built a solid lead but lost it to the heavier fuelled Red Bull at the first pitstop. But the real threat was his team-mate eating up the points on this easy-to-overtake circuit. However, Button was encountering a very stubborn and brilliant drive from Japanese rookie Kamui Kobayashi, to progress above eighth.

Hamilton pitted early and bided his time on a different strategy which eventually put him on the podium, and Vettel benefited from a similar race, at one point running second as Barrichello slipped. By lap 54 the championship was virtually decided as Button sat just four race points behind his team-mate and challenger.

But it was all definitely sealed in the 63rd lap when Barrichello, who had just slipped a place to a charging Hamilton, picked up a puncture, and with Kovalainen pitting and losing track position, Button miraculously found himself in fifth and holding his breath for seven more faultless laps.

In fact the drama started before lap one was out, with Kimi Raikkonen losing his hard earned third to a damaged wing and puncture, but the real action was on the side of the track as Jarno Trulli fought, quite literally with Adrian Sutil - earning him a hefty fine later for ill discipline. Both had been well ranked on the grid.

On lap two Heikki Kovalainen took off from the pits with fuel hose attached, burst into flames and dumped the inferno into Kimi Raikkonen's emerging car. Meanwhile Jenson Button was the biggest beneficiary, as Alonso also retired from the chaos, jumping the Briton to ninth, and snatching eighth from Grosjean soon after.

The rain that had proved so disastrous in qualifying held off, but for Brazilian fans this exciting penultimate race didn't quite go according to script. Although the Drivers' and Constructors' championships are decided, Barrichello is now two points behind Vettel with a final race to decide who finishes second overall. Mark Webber will definitely finish fourth, but a single point separates 'former' champions Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen, the same amount that separates their two teams for third in the Constructors' championship. The debut Abu Dhabi Grand Prix therefore still leaves much to race for.
