Lewis Hamilton returned to his winning ways with a commanding victory at the Hungaroring. Following him home was the more familiar sight of a Ferrari confidently driven by Kimi Raikkonen, while Mark Webber again snatched a podium place and springboarded himself into second in the Drivers' Title chase.

In a race marred by the critical injury to Felipe Massa, title leader Jenson Button could only manage seventh from his eight place grid start, but remains in control with a 19 point - but rapidly shrinking - lead. Finishing ahead of him were Nico Rosberg in the Williams, Heikki Kovailanen in the other McLaren and Timo Glock in the Toyota, while his team-mate Jarno Trulli picked up the final point.

Perhaps the biggest drama of the day was the flying wheel which loosened itself from Fernando Alonso's Renault as he lead the race on lap 15, having surprised everyone with pole position. It was poorly fitted during the pit stop, and Renault have been suspended for one race as a result - the FIA mindful of the 'flying spring' from Rubens Barrichello's gear box that floored Massa in practice.

The other big loser was Sebastian Vettel, who started badly and lost places from his front row grid start, lost some of his front wing and then retired on lap 29, killing his hopes of gaining more ground on the ailing Brawn car of Jenson Button.

But it was Hamilton who showed his class, nearly snatching second at the start when his KERS system propelled him up the grid from fourth. With an impressively improved McLaren he wasted no time passing Webber on this track which is notoriously difficult for overtaking, and then waited for Alonso's early pit stop.

The Toyotas benefitted well from late pit stops to jump into the points, while Kimi Raikkonen was another lucky recipient of shrewd tactics and light traffic on his pit exit. On the second round, Brawn were forced to pull Barichello off a one pit stop strategy and a potential points finish to minimise damage to Button's chances.

With seven races to go the challenging Red Bulls have to catch Button at a rate of 3 points a race, a tough call considering they now can't decide which of their drivers to back. To further complicate matters, Hamilton, Raikkonen and Massa will now enter the fray for podium points, with their improved and competitive cars.

Meanwhile Brawn's early season lead of 114 in the Constructors' Title is now in serious threat of being overhauled by Red Bull who are less than 16 points behind and catching fast. For the Drivers' Title Button is on 70, Webber 51.5, Vettel 47 and Barrichello 44.

* At the time of writing Massa was in a serious but stable condition in ICU.
