Getting to and from the Hungarian Grand Prix Circuit

The Hungaroring racing circuit lies some 22km (14mi) to the north-east of the capital city of Hungary, Budapest. For those enthusiasts coming from overseas, make sure to find out if you need a visa for Hungary or not, as visa regulations change from time to time.

The circuit itself is on the border of the small village of Mogyorod, which can be reached via train from Budapest. Journey time is roughly 30 minutes. Budapest itself is well connected with trains from all over Europe. There are 11 trains daily to and from Vienna (Austria) and six trains to Prague, two to Warsaw (Poland) and one to Berlin (Germany).

For international travellers, Budapest can be reached via the Ferihegy International airport, which services over 20 airlines with 50 flights a day. The airport is located 16km (10mi) south east of Budapest and is small in size, with only two terminals. Most international car rental agencies have rental desks in from the airport, and it is easy to access Hungaroring racing circuit by car. Take the E71/M3 motorway, in the direction of Miskolc. There is an airport bus that leaves for the downtown every 30 minutes or a minibus cum taxi service that leaves the airport as soon as it is full-up and drives to any destination in and around Budapest. Journey time is roughly 30 minutes.

Although every Grandstand ticket comes with a free parking ticket, for car and motorcycle (and there is plenty of parking is available at the circuit), accessing the Hungaroring by car is not a recommended way to get to there for the Grand Prix. The traffic for the Grand Prix weekend at the Hungaroring is infamously bad and unless you can leave plenty of time before and after the race, it is one stress and hassle worth avoiding.

Organizers provide a shuttle bus that is free, if you are ticket holder to the F1 Grand Prix race. The bus runs throughout the day, from the city center to the Hungaroring and vice-versa.

For those with no budget constraints, the easiest way to get to the Hungaroring is via helicopter. There is a helicopter service from Budapest to the racing circuit.
