Results of the 2010 Spanish Grand Prix
For the 2010 F1 Season, the Spanish Grand Prix is the first race in Europe, starting the European portion of the tour. This race saw 19 drivers complete the Grand Prix, with Mark Webber taking both the pole position and the podium. He was followed home by Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel in third. It was an important point scoring race for Team RedBull, with the one-three finish, closing the gap between the top three constructors' standings.
Qualifying at the Spanish Grand Prix yet showed that the new driver's continue to be plagued with problems, most only being able to finish the run. The only newcomer to finish all three races was Kamui Kobayashi, who placed and impressive 10th. Pole position was taken by Mark Webber, followed by Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. Michael Schumacher seems to finally be finding his groove, qualifying in sixth place.
First lap started off with Bruno Senna falling out with an accident. Then there was an altercation between Pedro de la Rosa and Sebastian Buemi, although both drivers were able to initially continue, both had to retire subsequently. Heikki Kovalainen was not even able to start, with gearbox problems.
The top positions were aggressively fought out between Webber, Vettel, Button, Hamilton, Alonso, Massa and even Schumacher. Halfway through the race, the positions were pretty set, with Webber keeping the lead. It was a frustrating race for Lewis Hamilton, who was well poised for second place, when he suffered a tyre puncture and then blowout. Although he didn't finish the race, since he had completed 90% of the race, he was qualified as finishing in 14th position.
This race was an important one for Kamui Kobayashi, driving for Team BMW Sauber. Kobayashi managed to finish 12th, giving him his first F1 Grand Prix race finish, having had to retire out of the first four races of the season. The results of this race has shaken up the Drivers' Championship standings.
Jenson Button remains in the lead, with 70 points, but Fernando Alonso has crept into second place with 67 points, pushing Nico Rosberg from second to fifth place. Sebastian Vettel comes into third place with 60 points, followed by Mark Webber with 53 points. Lewis Hamilton drops off the top five driver ranking.
For the Constructors' Championship, the one-three finish for Team Red Bull means that they are creeping up on first place McLaren-Mercedes and Ferrari. McLaren-Mercedes with 119 points, Ferrari with 116 points and Red Bull with 113 points. Mercedes is in a faraway fourth place with 72 points.
