A guide to the Snetterton Circuit

Located at a former WWII US air base, Snetterton began its motor sport life in the hands of a group of Aston Martin enthusiasts. Among the first additions to the track were two chicanes designed to reduce racing speeds down the huge runways.

With two of the longest straights in the country, and a location deep in the countryside, Snetterton is an ideal venue for around-the-clock events, long distance record attempts and speed trials. Recently built pit garages and hospitality suites have further enhanced its spectator appeal.

Snetterton is an interesting track with several high-speed corners and some tight technical challenges. The permanent road course type track is 1.95mi long, consisting of six right-handers, a left-hander and a set of esses. The current lap record is 58.97 seconds, set by Nigel Greensall in July 1997.

Popular events at the circuit are the Formula 3/GT Championships, British Touring Cars, championship car and motorcycle racing, historic car racing and the 24 hour 2CV challenge. Track days are also very popular throughout the season and the main stay of Snetterton; this is when visitors get the chance to thrash their own bike or car around the circuit.

The paddock is on the infield before the start/finish line and access is usually free. Food is served all day at the café here and toilet facilities are available in close proximity to the pit lane. There is good viewing on the infield and outfield at the grandstand near Riches, but the best spectating is at the slower points between the esses and the finish line.
